Nokia’s social networking smartphone will be available in the UK during the third quarter of this year, with an estimated retail price of 370 euros. The handset is powered by Symbian 3, which introduces several major advances, including support for gestures such multi-touch, flick scrolling and pinch-to-zoom.
The Nokia N8 is Nokia’s first device to be integrated with Qt, a software development environment that simplifies the development and makes it possible to build applications once and deploy across Symbian and other software platforms. The N8 is expected to be Nokia’s saviour as the manufacturer suffers from tumbling profits and lack of a flagship smartphone.
It is not thought Orange’s deal with Nokia is exclusive.
