Apple has refused to allow iPhones to be part of the UK’s first green ranking scheme for handsets, according to reports The scheme, which will be launched by O2 today, gives mobiles a ranking of zero to five based on their environmental credentials. Major manufacturers such as Samsung, Nokia and Sony Ericsson have already signed up to join.

Image is Loading....An Apple spokeswoman declined to comment on why the company had decided not to join the voluntary labelling scheme, but highlighted its environmental reporting online, the Guardian said.

The green scheme, which will launch in partnership with Forum for the Future, will assess handsets based on the environmental impact of their raw materials, manufacturing processes, packaging, energy efficiency and ease to recycle.
